SAP S/4 HANA Data Migration & Universal Data Model

The client's S/4 Data and Analytics team led the integration and management of data across processes, information, organisation, and technology as part of the organisation's SAP strategy. The programme was established to support the transition from previous SAP ECC environments to SAP S/4 HANA and to deliver the next generation SAP landscape.

Background

The S/4 D&A team required consulting support with SAP S/4 HANA expertise, including Universal Data Model knowledge, to support data preparation, migration activities, interim design requirements, and alignment across migration and deployment workstreams.

The Challenge

The programme needed to ensure that SAP S/4 HANA data designs maximised opportunities for improvement while remaining aligned to standard SAP S/4 HANA capability and standards. The work required clarification and completion of SAP S/4 HANA preparation activities and the establishment of guidance for data cleanse and clearance activities.

Our Approach

Provided expertise on SAP S/4 HANA data requirements, capability, and standards to support data design activities and ensure alignment with standard SAP S/4 HANA functionality. Clarified SAP S/4 HANA preparation activities and supported data cleanse and clearance activities required for transition readiness. Developed standardisation and simplification opportunities across the process landscape through SAP S/4 HANA data capabilities. Created and maintained project artefacts required to support the SAP S/4 HANA transition, including development of the first draft of the Universal Data Model to support end-to-end process flows. Supported source sheet provision activities for APICOM and Mexico data loads across DL2 and DL3 phases. Supported Data Design Leads during data discussions to achieve complete source sheet provision and acted as the coordination point between Data Leads, Data Design Leads, and Migration Build and Load teams. Supported successful data load activities for APICOM and Mexico SIT and UAT stages, supported Data Migration Deployment Leads with entry criteria activities, compiled Data Load reports, provided support for MDG migration impacts, and supported interim migration design activities as directed.

Results

The work supported the successful provision of APICOM and Mexico source sheets for SIT and UAT migration stages and supported successful loading of expected migration objects across deployment phases. The engagement also supported successful completion and sign-off of Data Migration DL2 and DL3 reports for APICOM and Mexico deployments, improved alignment across Data Leads and Migration teams, and supported the development of SAP S/4 HANA Universal Data Model design and migration governance activities.
