Pricing Specialist – Fares

Background

Price and fares availability were key drivers of rail demand and passenger satisfaction, particularly on the West Coast corridor with high levels of discretionary travel. A UK rail franchise development partnership was developing a recommended fares strategy and delivery plan, including an approach to fares regulation for High-Speed Services as part of Product 51: Fares Options and Analysis.

The Challenge

The engagement needed to review and challenge current fares options being developed, ensuring all applicable solutions were considered and that thinking was not constrained. It required reviewing outputs from fares market research to maximise value and support scoping of the next phase of research. The role also involved supporting the write-up of fares options reports for submission to the Department for Transport, reviewing fare assumptions and approaches used in the revenue model, and delivering written summaries of all reviews undertaken.

Our Approach

B2E critically reviewed current fare options, ensuring all potential solutions were considered and that analysis was not constrained. The team reviewed outputs from fares market research, supported scoping of subsequent research phases, and ensured maximum value was derived from available insights. B2E supported the write-up of fares options reports for submission to the Department for Transport and reviewed fare assumptions and approaches used within the revenue model, delivering written summaries of all reviews undertaken as part of the engagement.

Results
